Shut It Down

When the Congress shut down in ‘94 I thought it was the best thing they had done in a long time. I don't like to be too political, but I get so pissed off when I see people getting ripped off. When I get worked up it often comes out in a song.

On the threshing floor in the den of thieves
Dividing up the spoils according to their needs
The men from the boys and the chaff from the wheat
And the lemmings line up to agree

From the mouths of babes, they steal our grain
They line their pockets with ill-gotten gains
And they sit on their asses in their leather-backed seats
And the lemmings just smile in defeat

Shut it down, shut it down
Let the fat lady sing as we round out these clowns
Shut it down, shut it down
Don t forget to hit the lights
As you head out of town
... And shut it down!

There’s a building somewhere in Washington DC
Where they’ve got a file on you and they’ve got a file on me
Big Brother gets stronger on the backs of the weak
Who march to slaughter like sheep

So the politicians lie and their doctors spin
It’s the same old story again and again
No tax too high, no deficit too deep
How long will we lie here in sleep?

Tore down the wall dividing Berlin
As the world watched the whole thing on CNN
All the King’s horses and all the King’s men
Spread their ideas like seeds in the wind
