The Quake

This was written in New Madrid, Mo during a End of the World Party we were booked for. It was very surreal. The song basically wrote itself. I was in the hotel watching the TV news coverage and then looking out the balcony window watching it going on in real time. There were more media people in this town than locals. All because some false prophet predicted a quake that would separate the continent with New Madrid as ground zero.

A man burst on the scene, coming out of nowhere
Steps into the spotlight and the world is his stage
Hits the air waves armed with his predictions
It’ll be the big one put the west coast to shame
And the dates were set, in Vegas the line was called
Farmers harvested T-shirts shipped out to the malls
As we listened to the man in two months no one will recall
They decide which house would stand and which one would fall

You better get ready there's a quake coming
Hold steady there’s a quake coming
You better hold fast

Schedules changed, vacations cancelled
Ground zero is the town New Madrid
Business is booming, I heard someone saying
It’ll be a good Christmas if we’re all not dead
And the money from the outside world was welcome as rain
Some wondered out loud if things would ever be the same
Shops along Main Street all seemed to welcome the change
And a town thought to be dying was breathing again

Chorus & Solo

A man burst on the scene, coming out of nowhere
Steps into the spotlight and the world is his stage

Chorus
